In the strictest terms, the word "donk" is any 1971 to 1976 full-sized Chevy Caprice or Impala that has been subjected to a high-riser treatment with tall wheels (24 inchers would be considered the bare minimum), low-profile tires, and lots of ground clearance. That's just the beginning. Most true donks have also been highly customized with graphic and paint treatment, additional chrome plating, elaborate interiors, programmable lighting, and commanding entertainment systems. Increasingly, donks are also modified for performance and have been seen in recent years at mainstream drag events like LS Fest.

I thought I would pass it along since I doubt I'm the only OF who never heard the term.

I don't care what they do with an Old's Cutlass, but doing that to an Impala is sacrilege! That is just FUGLY! My 2nd car was a 1963 Impala SS 4-door hardtop. Loved, it but not well enough at the time. Figured I could always get another. One of many stupid decisions I've been kicking myself over the past nearly 50 years. The first was a 66 Lemans, that blew it's engine on the 3rd day I had it. That ain't much better.

I had to look up "donk" also. Got the same hit you did.

No drive shaft. Front wheels can't turn. I suspect the suspension is welded solid. When I was in the Southern US I saw a bunch of semi-functional ones driving around. The rims were always worth 4x the cost of the car. Lots of ads for purchasing new rims on extended payment plans. Boggles the mind.

I've always found it interesting that fads or styles are always taken to the extreme. "Oh, you think that's tall, big, wide, etc., etc., look at this". Like when rear wheels and tires on motorcycles got started. It always ends up appearing gauche and maybe a bit embarrassing.

The photo of the not too extreme car in the flooded alley was the only thing I've seen that I thought might be a good reason for doing this. Post #5 above. I don't live where such flooding is a very regular thing, and I still think it's stupid to drive into a flood, however. YMMV!

If you zoom in on the tires, they are sections of other tires, glued to the rims. Large gaps between sections. Anyone want to venture at what speed they would fly off?
