    1944 metallurgy supercharger - photo

1944 metallurgy supercharger. I'm not exactly sure what a metallurgy supercharger is. The full title on this photo from the Glenn Research Center is "PUBLICITY ON METALLURGY SUPERCHARGER, ETC." Original source is here: https://archive.org/details/C-1944-3811

I think that's a picture of an electron microscope. Here is an image of a very similar looking machine that's described as an electron microscope:

What that has to do with a supercharger I have no idea...

This is an early transmission electron microscope. These microscopes permitted detailed examination if very thin metal specimens to determine their crystal structure, defects and to image dislocations etc.

That supercharger is probably something like the new Porsche Taycan Turbo. That would be the completely electric car that's branded as being a "turbo." i.e. BS that sounds good.

If you google "metallurgy supercharger" one of the links that comes up is this one of old NASA publicity photos:

PUBLICITY ON METALLURGY SUPERCHARGER, ETC. - NASA Image eXchange Collection

which looks like it could be part of a supercharger or turbocharger. The heading on the photo says: "PUBLICITY ON METALLURGY SUPERCHARGER, ETC." which makes me suspect that this and the photo above were possibly part of a set of publicity photos and that there was supposed to be a comma between METALLURGY and SUPERCHARGER.

At least that's my guess. Could be completely wrong. But as they say "That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!"
