    I read a book on the history of the Studebaker company and in their prime they torture tested their cars to prove that they were the most reliable.

    There's a County Park West of South Bend called Bendix Woods. It's the Studebaker Proving Grounds (still!)
    A picture in it's heyday:

    They were a pretty big deal around here with entire sections of the city's housing areas built specifically for their employees.

    For those that didn't know it, Mishawaka, IN. (sister city to South Bend) claims the AM General military trucks like these:
    Deuce-And-A-Half - Still refurbishing these at a South Bend plant!
