Gladys Ingle was the lone female member of the 13 Black Cats aerial stunt group. They flew Curtiss JN-4 biplanes, performing wing walking stunts in the glamorous days of aviation, without parachutes or safety gear. In later years, regulations eventually required wing walkers to wear parachutes and to be secured to the wings.
Here are a couple of old photos of Ingle and her fellow Black Cats doing their thing, plus a video of her transferring planes in mid-air to replace a wheel. No CGI, no special effects, just risk and guts.
