    1919 AJS Rebuild

I had to make 4 new valve covers as the originals are beyond use. Made from chrome moly steel and milled on my lathe vertical slide, indexing was done by a large hex nut located into the top recess against a parallel to the rear (good enough for spanner flats) and nickel plated.

Also the carburettor bore has been lapped and a new brass slide made, all polished and nickel plated.
Should be able to get the engine buttoned up soon.

What are the numbers for near the top of the carb? Mixture or throttle stop adjustment?

    Hi Tony
The carburettor is an AMAC single jet type fitted from 1914 to 1920. A very basic device which took a lot of research to understand it. The numbered ring at the top is an air control adjustment which can be altered by lifting the knurled ring and rotated to the next peg inside, there is no throttle stop other than the cable setting. The knurled ring turned black during the plating as I did not realise it was aluminium.
